Is it safe to go to Philippines?
My mother lives on an island of Luzon. My wife, daughter and plans to visit there for the first time in June. I just read that the U.S. State Department issued a travel warning for Philippines and the pointer to the child kidnappings, car bombings and other terrorist attack occurred in Mindanao, which is the southernmost island group. My mother says she lived in a safe, rural region, far from where the problem is getting area. Obviously I'm very hesitant to bring my daughter after reading this. I was strange to get another perspective, especially from Americans who traveled to the Philippines recently.
I traveled to Thailand 3 weeks ago Bantangus down for a wedding. No problems whatsoever. I am a white American 6 '2 "and out like a sore thumb. Regurally to travel throughout the Visayas and to Manilla and lived here in the Philippines (Iloilo City) since January 2002. I have not had any security concerns here in the Philippines. Yes there are some problems in the south end of Mindano and trough of Sulu Archepelligo. Unless your trip to not be worried. Our department regurally state overstates the problem here and it applies only to their butts.
