English is the key to succeed in the Philippine Call Center and Other Industries
No one can argue that English is the global language. Including all over 2 billion speakers, English has spread its influence in almost every part of society and in every crevice and corner of the world. The Philippines is not spared from avowal in English despite having Filipino, our national language. Our acceptance of English is deeply rooted in our history from the colonization of the Philippines American in 1898 and the arrival of the first American public school teachers called Tomasites in 1901. Furthermore, it is further magnified reign as seen in growing demand for English language competence as part of one's Employability especially in the Philippines call centers. It is a powerful way of maintaining business and international connections and to be abreast of recent technological and scientific advancement. In our day and age, creating a thriving economy is strictly linked to our ability to communicate with the rest of the world. In fact, this language functions as a trump card to gain access to competitive career opportunities the call center industry in the Philippines.
However, the basic conundrums brought about in the realm of English as a second language, the constant resistance in accordance with The Filipino language standards, and the undeniable fact that our country is very different languages and dialects, there is a doubt for the same educational BPO and corporate institutions. The alarming decline of Filipinos' English skills forced the government to fully implement the bilingual Education Policy 1987, which notes that "for purposes of communication and instruction, the official language of the Philippines is Filipino, and until otherwise provided by law, English" (Article XIV Sec. 7 of the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines). The strong government stance to support profitable business that requires more skilled and English-wise as BPO workforce Philippine call center and further emphasized the importance of English communication excellence.
The language issue is so serious that almost all fields of work and not with the English skills as a prime criterion for receiving employee or in some cases, the Retaining and promoting people to their industry. Nothing more the day when anyone, even without much knowledge of language, may not receive the call center work. In our modern era, without the necessary level English skills, no one can get a dream job to dream companies. No one could get a chance to drive that dream car or living at home that dream. No one could get a chance earlier in the professional ladder. It may seem farfetched to some, but it only clearly shows the power the English have over us.
Besides the Philippine call centers, more and more corporate institutions in countries that provided measures to Learning and mastering the language English should not stop at the same time as a graduate from college. It should consider as something outside of our culture, but a part of our society, our lives and our lives. Should be embraced, owned, and enriched it is important to be a part of the global community and not fall deeper into the English-deprived cliff.
