Do I repeat the whole curriculum if I change college college schools from Philippines to London?
I am currently studying at ateneo de davao university in Davao City, Philippines for Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and my mom is planning to transfer me to continue my studies at London after 2 years, which I will be a 3rd year college student then, and my classmates told me that if I transfer college in outside the country, I must repeat all the curriculum back to freshman. Is this true?
Thank you for your time bestfriends… I’m really confused T_T
assuming that my mom will enter me into a university… Does that mean that I’ll repeat the whole curriculum back to first year?
The other poster is confusd because you said “college”. In the UK, college and university are not the same. You mean “university”.
You will be qualified to apply to and be accepted by a UK university. However, UK unis are not set up like those of the US or the Philippines, and while you can enter one, you can not “transfer” your credits. Thus you do restart at year 1.
This is true of British students who transfer as well, or who change courses. They restart.
It would be a good idea for you to email one or two of the British universities you’re considering, and ask them if they’d admit you with advanced standing, or if you’d need to start from the beginning of the course. (You will need to start from the beginning, but it’s good to have confirmation on this, and not just go on my say-so, yes?)
Since the system in the Philippines is similar to that of the US and Canada, it is far more likely that you could truly transfer to a university in the US or in Canada. US and Canadian universities do accept transfer credits, and you most likely would be able to start there with some advanced standing. In other words, at a US or Canadian university, you would not need to restart from the beginning. You may need to repeat some classes, or not, depending on how much of your current work is considered transferrable/acceptable, but it’s unlikely you’d need to start again.
I know for a fact that many students study in the Philippines for the first two years of their degree course, and then transfer to US universities. So this move is not uncommon.
Know that your particular college/university, Ateneo de Davao University, is considered reputable, so your coursework should be acceptable to US and Canadian universities.
So you and your mom may want to look to the US and Canada instead.
