How a Taxi Driver was a Bank President

It all started when my plane to Cebu was delayed by 5 hours.

While my fellow-passengers around were acting like enraged volcanoes spewing lava, cursing the catastrophe that befell us, I smiled and closed my eyes. Soon, I felt peace. I whispered, "Lord, you have a special surprise in store for me."

And in a few minutes, I discovered my gift.

Special surprise was Ray, a man who would bless me with his life. He also gave me key business ideas double my salary.

He greeted me with a firm handshake and a friendly smile. "I watch you on TV," he said, "and I text my family and friends to watch you. "

Like me, Ray's flight to Mindanao was delayed for 8 hours. (All day flight was delayed. This airport looks like a refugee camp with the people sitting on floor and crowds begging for food from the staff at the airline.)

I do not know why, but I sensed a connection with people in front of me.

Later, I discovered why.

As we found seats and ordered coffee, Ray shared with me the riveting story of his life. so I was swept away by his experiences, I forgot all about my coffee.

"I went to Bible School and became a pastor," he said. "I pioneered a little church." But after being a pastor for 3 years, tragedy struck. His wife lost a baby boy in her pregnancy. The litigation arising from Ray think about his family more.

"It's lonely being a priest," he explained. "The problem with my flock all my problems. But my problem is only mine! So I asked my people in their parish picnic too. "Slowly, he provided his office with his congregation as he felt a need to focus on his family, especially their financial needs.

He joined the corporate life. For 6 years, he worked for a large company as their Regional Manager for the entire Mindanao (Southern Philippines region). He was earning P50, 000 a month (U.S. $ 1000 +), a huge sum during that time. But at the end of the day, he still broke. In fact, he was in debt to the tune of P1.2 million (U.S. $ 26,000 +), including a warrant of arrest.

To survive and feed his children, was a former Regional Manager Taxi Driver. This is an incredible or incredibly humbling experience. But he learned valuable lessons that would change his life forever.

Rey is now only earning P350 a day of a far cry from what he was earning before. But it is here where he learned how to manage his money.

It is here where He has learned how to live within its means.

It is here where he learned how to save.

Ray said, "People want to manage what they do not need. That is why they are poor. By borrowing for things they can not afford. During years as a Taxi Driver, I learned to manage what I had. And I am actually better off earning P350 a day than earning P50, 000 a month! For now, I learned to manage my money. "

After a year of being a Taxi driver, he borrowed enough money to buy the cabs and became a Taxi Operator. But that is just a transitional step to learn how to run a business. His real goal is to become the "money" business.

Ray wanted to own a bank.

So his first step is to work on a Rural Bank without asking for a salary. He just wanted to learn. And 3 years later, when he learned enough, Ray developed his own Rural Bank.

Now, its Rural Bank is going strong. Now, after 7 years, banks have provided micro-loans to more than one thousand people in his city, which gives their capital for their small businesses. And by paying 97% efficiency! Because of this, his bank is transforming the lives of the poor. He teaches them the habits of saving, investment, and entrepreneurship.

Ray explained, "People ask me, 'Do you want to improve? What do you have? You may not have the money. But you have time. Not only time, but the time to learn. So use that! Join an insurance company and become an agent. Or join a company and sell their products. The important thing is to learn, and from there, branch out. Do not get a job to earn money. Get a job to know! And not start a business to earn money. With a business to know! The money will follow. "

He continued, "Some people start a business and want to earn immediately. But that is not wise. Starting a business is like a slingshot. You have to pull back. This means that the cleaning system. Take time pulling back. Because when it's time to release, you'll be surprised that your business will quickly shoot to the target. "

Ray is a serial entrepreneur. Behind its calling card is a list of its other businesses, the construction company, a company of property management, salons, restaurants, plus a few others.

"I never manage my business," He said, "I pass it on to people who can do a better job. I do them part owners. That is why I own many businesses."

As Ray said, it was though I was hearing myself preach.

We both have the same beliefs about money.

We are both preachers to address the practical needs of the people.

We are both Serial Entrepreneurs.

And we are both out of poverty by teaching three things in Filipino: (1) a practical spirituality, (2) a more positive financial mindset, and (3) financial literacy.

Oh, one last thing: we both love our families.

The airport, I met Ray lovely wife and beautiful daughter with him.

I sensed the joy to his family. It was refreshing.

On that day, my catastrophe turned out to be a rich blessing.

Not only for me, but everyone who reads this blog this time.

Talking to Ray made me realize more than ever before that we should not say to ourselves, "I'm stuck in where I am. My life will never change. "

Keep dreaming my friend.

God has wonderful plan for your life.

Pursue this love affair.

May your dreams come true,

Bo Sanchez
