Untold Story of Manny Pacquiao
It was in April of 2000, when I came from almost a year of stay states. I am looking for probable business to generate additional income to my deteriorating Real Estate Business after we were hit badly by the Asian Crisis in 1997.
BOXING my LOVE of the sport brought me back to a small Gym LM Paquita St. Sampaloc, Manila, where I used to be there every day to watch the training of my boxers from 1990 to 1993. I used to have nine boxers in my stable, LM training Gym. I was able to built a light weight Champion in two years time from the day I started managing the "Cadorna Boxing firm.
One afternoon I visited the LM Gym, and I am looking for the former trainer of my boxers Mr. Ben Delgado who happens to be my trainer as an Armature boxer when I was still a boxer way back in Davao City in Mindanao 1975 Boxing Gym in Quirino Ave. This Gym is own by Mr. Vic Quiambao. In a few minutes some of the boxers in the gym LM Manong Ben called up as I used to call him. He was so excited and so appear to see me again in the Gym! We shook hands and we had a cup of coffee in the canteen and started convincing me that the Government boxers again.
I was a bit cool and relaxed, but what I noticed his eyes was his interest of working with me again. She whispered to me, I with a gift for you! I said, What is it? He said, a fighter who is looking for a MANAGER. I ask him, what his weight division? and he answered a mini-fly weight! He is a ten rounder that, he told me. I do not even ask the name yet, I just ask him, I see him? In a few minutes he told me of a very young slim guy. I said okay, and the boxer went back inside the Gym quiet. I commented to Manong Ben I am not interested to manage the boxers again. Ben told me, Just get this boxer Peter, just one and I'll take care of him. I gently ask Manong Ben, What's his name? And he answered, His name is Manny Pacquiao from (GenSan) General Santos City, a City in Mindanao. I commented to Manong Ben, he is too thin for a boxer! I have no confidence in her body built!
Not I even give a chance to talk with Manny Pacquiao because I was more interested in talking with Manong Ben. We have not talked for over a year. Several months later, Manny Pacquiao is managed by Mr. Polding Corea. This is the first manager of Manny Pacquiao in Manila. Aa year Manny became a time Flyweight World Champion. During the first early years of training in Manila, it was Ben Manny Delgado hold until he fought in World Championship IBF Super Bantam Weight Champion Lehlohonolo Ledwaba against the state where he knocked out in 6th rd Lebwaba., Manong Ben Manny is still in the fight during which they met Freddie Roach. If you watch the fight on youtube you'll Manong At the Corner of Ben Manny including Freddie Roach. That was Manny Pacquiao's turning point? That was the last time I saw Manong Ben Manny Pacquiao fights. This is Freddie Roach heads the training camp and legendary Fernandez.
