When and where did the abbreviation for the PI Philippines Island started?
Most people in the state use the PI to chat. I'm curious as to what system the abbreviation they use
The Filipinos use "PI" as slang for the Philippines and is used more in conversation. "PI" has its origin in American colonization. Some inhabitants of the Philippines are offended by this declaration. The U.S. Naval also use "PI" as an abbreviation for the country. Perhaps many Filipinos are in service there. The day "RP" (ie Republic of the Philippines, or Republic of the Philippines) is more commonly used. They say it is more politically correct. Check also the controversy on the use of 'Filipino' and 'pinoy.
