Residents of eight northern town in cebu Philippines claimed to see "a ball of fire" on Monday afternoon crashed and exploded in hitting the ground. Sounds like a typical meteorite impact on me. Little space rocks hit Earth all the time, but they disintegrate in the atmosphere. Big ones are more rarely, but not too rare – a few years to get noticed, I would say. The large survive in the soil, and can they make a pretty big Why when they fall.
