Americans have a big effect on culture of the Philippines. Philippines culture is a mix of Malay, Chinese, Spanish, Mexican, and American culture. Here is a brief outline of Americanized piece of Philippine culture: physical FEATURES * There are many Filipinos of American descent, and they called Amerasians. Most of them are children of people in U.S. Military. * Furthermore, there are 250,000 permanent residents of American citizens in the Philippines, American and 80,000 temporary residents, and together, they constitute the second largest American population in the world second only to the United States. * White skin, Light hair is considered all better than those with darker skin or hair. Film Industry * most are White or American blood in them. If not, they must at least be of Spanish descent (see Hispanic). * To enter the Film Industry, must be one of Hispanic descent to survive successful. LANGUAGE * English is the lingua franca of the Philippine islands. * A Filipino speak English at home is considered handsome and smart in the Philippines. * 70% speak English either as a first or second language. FOOD * American Fastfood chains such as Pizza Hut, Shakeys, McDonalds, Burger King and Baskin Robbins, Auntie Anne's, factory milk Queen, Wendy's, Carl's Jr., Krispy Kreme, Dunkin Donuts, Mister Donut, and their local variants are very popular in the country. * Pizza is one of the staple food of teenagers and young adults in the Philippines. * Philippines is the only Asian country where potatoes, corn, and bread eaten in place of rice. EDUCATION * Philippine science and technology is heavily dependent on American technology and science. * All major subjects in the Philippines (eg, Medicine, Science, Mathematics, the Some Social Sciences) came from the United States. * English only language in schools, and speaking in Filipino or any other language of the Philippines is punished stifly. (different!) religion * About 16% of the population of the Philippines were adherents of the Born Again Christian Protestant sects, which are highly connected to American Protestant groups. * Philippine Protestant Christianity is considered a branch of North American Protestant Christianity, almost all the pastors in the country trained in either the U.S. or U.S. lessons.
