Why are my Filipino friends send money to the Philippines to support their parents?
I asked my friend why he is that he said is because he owes a debt to his parents. These are the ones who raised him and send him to school. His father even said me that he was his "investment" and live the good life back in PI. As my buddy and his wife are struggling. I guess from my understanding parent puts her children to school and raise her right to return to he can do the same for his children. Not once my parents asked me to pay them back for my studies or my care. We argued for a little while about this issue and he ended it with "It's just part of our culture "I do not think that's true, it. If anyone here can explain it to me a little more like I appreciate it.
As a Canadian living in the Philippines I know where you are coming from. I first found it strange but after living here I have realized that their values family and the closeness of family is stronger here than a lot of places.I met a lot of people have left to work and they all oveseas sending money back home to parents and even a lot of cases in their younger brother in so they can attend school and get a better life. they see it as strange that this is their way of life.also when ever they travel they bring back boxes of gifts for the whole family including cousins, nephews even the next door neighbor. Hope this helps you understand the culture here
