You can use the iphones' google maps / child internationally?
I saw the new yesterday (I live in the Philippines) and the iPhone is coming here in September with carriers, and my father said that he'd get me one if he could use the GPS or Google maps on it, and I heard it has Maps them, but I was wondering if it used internationally, because we live in Asia and we visit the U.S. every year, and we want to keep borrowing GPSs from with relatives.
As of today, iPhone will not have any GPS on it. The way in which Google Maps (iPhone) works is this: It determines the tower number of cell phone tower you are currently connected to. It then finds out from the Google database via the internet and finds the approximate co-ordinates of your current position. It is shown on google maps. The rpe-requisite for this work will need to have a data connection (GPRS/3G) to your provider. Now, if you are traveling to the U.S., it only works if you put a SIM U.S. carrier to which a data plan. Other than that, it shud work without any problems. But keep in mind that the location which is shown is approx (usually within 1 km. Radius) and sometimes it is wrong too (software is in beta pa)
