Why Intel leaving the Philippines?
I feel so sad when I heard the news. I know some of my acquaintances who are working there for a number of years. The Phil govt can do sumthin about it?
The number of reasons. Cheaper labor in China is one of the main reasons. Also The "Power rate second highest in Asia, lack of infrastructure, high corporate taxes, and rampant theft ..." in the Philippines from this link: http://www.topix.com/world/philippines/2008/04/intels-exit-symbol-of-what-is-wrong- on-the-If the Philippines is the Philippine government wants to keep Intel better they will do something like lower corporate tax rate, improve their infrastructure, lower their rates or even give power companies such as Intel a break on their electric and fuel bills, and find ways to curb the theft and black marketing. If not seem China is Intel's new Asian home. Intel is in the Philippines for 34 years, but nothing lasts forever. Same thing happened in Mexico. Lots of European and American companies have plants and then moved them to China because labor costs are lower, there is more theft and the authorities are cheaper to bribe.
