What is the best way (apart from carrying U.S. dollars) to get the highest rate of change in the Philippines?
I need to access the money for somethings that I buy. Other than carrying large amounts of U.S. dollars in the Philippines where I can get the best exchange rate? ATM, wire transfer, Travelers checks?
Travelers Checks are useless here. A wire transfer is still going you money in your hand. DO NOT USE Ever Ever road MONEY changers where they have little booths set up. The guys they send out their little flash cards that advertise 2 or 3 pesos to the existing rate but people are magicians in their hands. You do not even know that that is up to you down the road somewhere. And what? Everybody likes to think they are more intelligent than the crooks but beware. They do things in this day and day-out. YOU WILL GET OFF ripped. Your best rates are at least change from cash machines. The machine connected to the bank offers a higher daily limit. The international rates are set once and not subject to someone's opinion. Next is customer service desk of a reputable bank. Even then, there will be a penalty for the bills to dog ear, fold creases, pen marks, etc. I living here for some years and I know what I'm talking about. I'm not just guessing here. Airport rates are a total ripoff too. Some Filipino entrepreneurs receive of U.S. $ 100 Notes to the transaction, but the need to meet the boss, not the accepted help.
