Is linguistics (East Asian major) course a good choice or not?

I'm planning to take up linguistics for college, majoring in East Asian Languages. I currently own learning the basics of Japanese and Korean. The thing is, there are people who are against my chosen course. My biggest worry does the job offer. I do not plan to become a full time translator an embassy of the people for my entire life. Are there any good jobs available for a linguist? Tourism is also good? Is it okay to take up linguistics majoring in East Asian Languages and become a tour guide (or something similar) in the Philippines (a South East Asian countries)? Actually, I also want to study abroad, particularly in Japan, a day. I'm not sure if I could do it though. But it conflicts with the work I would go to the Philippines (Anything that has to do with tourism). ~ I'm in such a dilemma. Please help me if you can. Thanks.

Language is always a plus. As you mentioned is a large international tourism industry. If your language combine business with a huge market looking for translators. Also, these are the popular up and coming languages in education if you want to consider teaching as a profession. Good luck.
