Visa to Vietnam --

Visitors going to Vietnam must show a valid visa before Vietnam allowed the country. Visa can be requested from A Vietnamese embassy near you, or can be sourced through a reliable travel agency.

Compared to other Southeast Asian countries in Asia, Vietnam is a tougher nut to crack where the visa is concerned. The rules and costs widely vary depending on providing the embassy or consulate.

The Bangkok embassy, for example, can take your payment and process your visa in the very same day to charge 1,000 baht (U.S. $ 50 to its dollar equivalent; no other currency is accepted). The Consulate in San Francisco takes five days and $ 65 to do the same thing.

Visa Exemptions

Most visitors in Vietnam will need a visa to enter the country, with some exceptions. Citizens from ASEAN countries are allowed to enter without applying for a visa, and other countries have made similar arrangements for their citizens.

  • Citizens of following countries can stay, visa-free, for less than 30 days: Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore
  • Citizens of the Philippines can stay, visa-free, for not more than 21 days.
  • Citizens of following countries can stay, visa-free, for no later than 15 days: Denmark, Finland, Japan, Norway, South Korea, Sweden

If you are not a any citizen of this country, you must apply for a visa in a nearby Vietnamese embassy.

In the United States, you can apply to the Vietnamese embassy Washington, DC if you are in East Coast, or the Vietnamese Consulate in San Francisco if you are on the West Coast.

Vietnam Tourist visa

Tourist visas are available for a maximum 30-day stay, including the option to extend your visa for another 30 days of your arrival in Vietnam.

To obtain Vietnam tourist visa from your nearest Vietnam embassy or consulate, download the visa form from the website of the local embassy and fill it.

The Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate in the U.S., you are required to provide:

  • Your original passport - valid for six months after planned trip, and with vacant pages for full-page visa stamp
  • One completed visa application form
  • One 2 "x2" passport-sized photo attached firmly to the space provided on the application form
  • A money order or cashier's check payable processing mission. The Embassy asks the call to them to seek current payment, although the rate is common knowledge to travelers.

Vietnam Business visa

Business visas are available for business guests (if you're investing in a business in Vietnam, or if you are arriving for work). Vietnam business visa is valid for six months and allow multiple entries.

The requirements for a business visa Vietnam are identical to those for the tourist visa, the addition of a Business Visa Approval Form from your sponsor in Vietnam. You can get this form from the Embassy or Consulate - your sponsor must obtain it from officials in Vietnam.

Other Vietnam visa

Diplomatic and official visas are provided for visitors to government and diplomatic business. Holders of diplomatic and service passport was granted the visa, which is free.

The requirements for visas are similar to those for the business visa, the addition of a note verbale from the concerned agencies, foreign missions or international organizations.
